Quality First

Quality First is a philosophy of quality and a framework for earning public trust in aging services. More important, it is a renewal of our commitment as aging-services providers to help older adults and their loved ones live their lives to their fullest potential.

Through Quality First, we work in partnership with all stakeholders - government, consumers and the people we serve and their families - to create quality of care and quality of life in aging services.

The core of AAHSA Quality First is the 10 Elements of Quality:

  1. 1. Commitment
  2. 2. Governance & Accountability
  3. 3. Leading-Edge Care and Services
  4. 4. Community Involvement
  5. 5. Continuous Quality Improvement
  6. 6. Human Resources Development
  7. 7. Consumer-Friendly Information
  8. 8. Consumer Participation
  9. 9. Research Findings and Education
  10. 10. Public Trust and Consumer Confidence

Quality First is helping leaders transform aging services organizations to create a culture of quality improvement. Here is what AAHSA members are saying:

"Signing the AAHSA QF Covenant creates a new level of awareness and commitment to our public responsibility and our purpose for acting as 'good stewards' of our community resources."

"AAHSA QF is a single focus we can all support to provide confidence to the various stakeholders in senior living throughout the country."

"Before, we were meeting quality standards; with AAHSA QF, we are educating ourselves and others."

We would like to recognize the following Aging Services of Washington members who have signed the AAHSA Quality First Covenant, thereby committing their organization to the principles of Quality First:

Advancing Excellence Nursing Home Campaign

The Advancing Excellence in America's Nursing Homes Campaign is reinvigorating efforts to improve the quality of care and quality of life for those living in America's nursing homes. The campaign is led by an unprecedented coalition of long-term care providers, caregivers, medical and quality improvement experts, government agencies, foundations and consumers. AAHSA is a founder of the campaign. Advancing Excellence builds, complements and strengthens the work of existing quality initiatives including Quality First, the Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI), and the culture change movement.
